- 12th · Graduate For Madhyamik Shikshak (subject teacher) under the Madhya Pradesh State School Education Service (Academic Cadre) Rules 2018 reproduced in the MSTET 2023 rulebook: a bachelor's degree in the relevant subject plus a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education; or a bachelor's degree with at least 50 per cent plus a one-year B.Ed; or a bachelor's degree with at least 45 per cent plus a B.Ed under the NCTE regulations; or Higher Secondary with at least 50 per cent plus a four-year B.El.Ed; or Higher Secondary with at least 50 per cent plus a four-year integrated degree (B.A. B.Ed / B.Sc. B.Ed); or a bachelor's degree with at least 50 per cent plus a one-year B.Ed (Special Education). Reserved-category candidates get up to 5 per cent relaxation in the qualifying marks, and the exam is held subject-wise against the qualifications in the rulebook's Appendix-1.
- Age
- A candidate had to have completed 21 years as on 1 January 2023 to sit the previous (2023) eligibility test; the maximum age is computed at the department's recruitment stage under General Administration Department directions and the departmental recruitment rules (MSTET 2023 rulebook, chapter 1(1), clause 7). Relaxations and cut-off dates are category-specific.
- Application fee
- In the previous cycle (MSTET 2023) the fee was ₹600 per question paper for unreserved candidates — a ₹500 board fee plus a ₹100 School Education Department fee — and ₹300 per question paper for Madhya Pradesh-domicile SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates (₹250 plus ₹50), with an MP Online portal fee of ₹60 via kiosk or ₹20 via a registered citizen login; the next cycle's fee is not published yet. Use the official payment instructions only.
- Pay
- The eligibility test carries no pay of its own; the Madhyamik Shikshak post it qualifies a candidate for starts at ₹32,800 plus dearness allowance, with probation pay under rule 13 of the 2018 recruitment rules (MSTET 2023 rulebook, clause 9). Gross and in-hand pay vary by posting and allowance.

Who can apply?

Basic eligibility paths
- Qualifying marks are 60 per cent, relaxed to 50 per cent for Madhya Pradesh-domicile SC, ST, OBC, EWS and divyang candidates holding a valid certificate; applicants from other states need 60 per cent (MSTET 2023 rulebook, clauses 6 and 7).
- A pass is valid for life, and this lifetime validity covers the teacher eligibility test held in 2018 and later (rulebook clause 7).
- The test is held subject-wise: a candidate must hold the qualification for the chosen subject as listed in Appendix-1 and may sit only in the main subject of their degree (rulebook clauses 7 and 8).
- Qualifying creates no right to appointment — a candidate must also clear the department's separate Teacher Selection Test (rulebook clause 7).
- The same rulebook covers Madhyamik Shikshak (subject, sports and music) and Primary Teacher (sports, music and dance) eligibility, under post codes 01 to 06.
Relaxations & certificates
- SC/ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD and ex-servicemen relaxations follow the applicable notification.
- Always check the certificate format and cut-off date in the official notice.

Selection process & syllabus

Selection stages
- 1One objective paper of 150 marks over 2 hours 30 minutes, one mark per question
- 2Negative marking of one mark for every four wrong answers
- 3Category-wise qualifying marks decide the pass, and a lifetime-valid certificate is issued
Syllabus snapshot
- Part A (30 marks, compulsory) — General Hindi 8, General English 5, General Knowledge with current affairs, reasoning and numerical ability 7, and Pedagogy 10
- Part B (120 marks) — one subject chosen from Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Mathematics, Science or Social Science, taken in the main subject of the candidate's degree
- Part A is pitched at Higher Secondary level and Part B at graduate level, drawing on the Madhya Pradesh class 9 and 10 curriculum (MSTET 2023 rulebook, chapter 1(1))
