- 999 Notification 01/MRB/2026 notifies 999 vacancies, stated to be the figure after deduction of the reservation for meritorious sportspersons. The notification's distribution table splits them across General Turn, BC, BC(M), MBC/DNC, SC, SC(A) and ST with separate sub-columns for women, destitute widows, differently abled persons, persons who studied in Tamil medium and shortfall vacancies. MRB also warns that the number advertised is indicative and can change before selection is finalised.

Under G.O.(Ms) No.91, Human Resources Management Department, dated 13.09.2021 there is no maximum age limit for SC, SC(A), ST, MBC & DNC, BC and BCM candidates; for other candidates the maximum is 34 years, and 44 years for a differently abled person. Destitute widows have no maximum age limit. 'No maximum age limit' means the applicant must not have completed 60 years of age on the date of the notification or at the time of selection or appointment. Applicants outside the reserved communities who have already put in five years or more of State or Central Government service are not eligible even if within the age limit. Relaxations and cut-off dates are category-specific.

Basic eligibility paths
- Applications are accepted online only, through the portal linked from MRB's notification page.
- The rule of reservation applies as in force, with a separate 3.5% reservation for Backward Class Muslims inside the 30% Backward Classes quota.
- Differently abled candidates may take an age concession of up to ten years over the prescribed limits under Section 64 of the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions of Service) Act, 2016.
- Under G.O.(Ms) No.77, Health and Family Welfare Department, dated 14.03.2024 as amended by G.O.(D) No.1602 dated 18.12.2025, candidates whose employment was affected by G.O.(Ms) No.325 dated 20.11.2012 are considered first, as a one-time measure with age relaxation up to 14 years.
