- Pay
- A fixed monthly remuneration calculated as last basic pay drawn minus basic pension, in terms of Finance Department, Puducherry ID Note No.46324/FD/F3/2014 dated 01.12.2022. No DA is allowed during the contract period, and the consultant is eligible for one day's leave in a complete calendar month, with pro-rata deduction for absence beyond that. Gross and in-hand pay vary by posting and allowance.

Basic eligibility paths
- Only officials retired from the Government of Puducherry in the grade of SAO, JAO, Superintendent, Law Officer or Legal Assistant may apply; the engagement is purely contractual and initially for six months.
- The applicant must hold an LL.B. and have at least three years of experience in handling court cases or litigation management, or of working as Registrar, Deputy Registrar or Legal Advisor in a Judicial Body, and must have working knowledge of computers.
- The upper age limit is 65 years as on 30 Jun 2026, the last date named in the notification.
- Applications must be on the prescribed Annexure-I form with a recent photograph, posted to the Member Secretary, Puducherry Examining Authority, Chief Secretariat, Puducherry-605001, with the envelope superscribed 'APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF CONSULTANT (LEGAL)'; applications in any other format, or incomplete applications, are rejected without intimation.
- A scanned copy of the application with proof of date of birth, a valid Government identity proof, educational and professional qualification certificates, an experience certificate and the Pension Payment Order copy must also be emailed in PDF only to dpar-exam@py.gov.in.
- During the engagement the consultant may not represent any person other than the PEA before any court, tribunal or legal authority, must maintain confidentiality during and after the contract, and may be required to attend office on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays when work requires it.

- The notification prescribes no category-based age relaxation; the only stated limit is 65 years as on 30 Jun 2026.
- The 17 Jul 2026 circular extends only the last date for receipt of applications and expressly leaves the eligibility and other conditions unchanged.
