Puducherry Sub-Inspector of Police (Male), IRBn — CGL Exam 2026

Basic eligibility paths

• ✓Only Indian citizens who are natives or residents of the Union Territory of Puducherry may apply.
• ✓Candidates attending the PST/PET must carry a valid original government photo ID, per the IRBn press release dated 1 Aug 2026.
• ✓In-service applicants claiming an age concession had to forward a copy of the online-generated application through their Head of Department by 3:00 PM on 8 Jun 2026 to the Member Secretary, Puducherry Examining Authority; advance copies were not entertained.
• ✓Selected candidates remain on probation for two years, undergo one year of Basic Training at a Police or CAPF training centre in India plus Phase-II training under IRBn raising guidelines, and are liable to be posted anywhere in India.
• ✓All other terms and conditions of Advertisement No.01/CGL/PEA/2026 dated 13 Mar 2026 continue to apply.

• SC/ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD and ex-servicemen relaxations follow the applicable notification.

Selection stages

1. 1Online application and scrutiny (1,871 applications received)
2. 2Physical Standards Test — height not less than 167 cm, chest 81-86 cm with 5 cm expansion, BMI 18.50-29.9 kg/m2 — held 13 and 14 Aug 2026
3. 3Physical Endurance Test in four qualifying stages: 100 m in 15.00 seconds, long jump 3.80 m, high jump 1.20 m and 800 m in 2 minutes 50 seconds; three chances are allowed in the jumps, and ex-servicemen are exempt from the PET
4. 4Written Competitive Examination (Combined Graduate Level Examination-2026), conducted in all four regions subject to candidate numbers
5. 5Medical Examination against the standards in the Government Standing Order

Syllabus snapshot

• The syllabus is the one prescribed for Paper-I and Paper-II (A) under para 2, 'Combined Graduate Level Examination', in Annexure-I to the notification dated 13 Mar 2026.
• Paper-I and Paper-IIA are bilingual — English with Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam — and the chosen language must be indicated in the online application; English language, grammar, comprehension and literature questions are not translated.
