Selection process & syllabus
Stage by stage, without mixing recruitment years.
Selection stages
- 1Junior Engineer-I and Junior Accountant — a single computer-based common written competitive examination of 2 hours, objective multiple-choice only, in two parts weighted 60% (Part A) and 40% (Part B); there is no interview and there is negative marking for each wrong answer (advertisements RVUN/Rectt.-2026-27/02 and /03, clause 10)
- 2Junior Engineer-I and Junior Accountant — minimum qualifying marks in Part A and Part B are 30% for unreserved candidates and 20% for SC/ST/BC/MBC/EWS, ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates; the sum of Part A and Part B marks decides the final merit, scores across sessions are equated, and where marks tie the elder candidate ranks higher
- 3Junior Assistant/Commercial Assistant-II — Phase I computer-based test in two stages, a Pre-examination used only for screening and shortlisting (about 10 times the vacancies are admitted to the next stage) and a Main examination, followed by Phase II, a Type Writing Test
- 4Junior Assistant/Commercial Assistant-II — the final merit gives 40% weightage to the Phase-I Main examination and 60% to the Phase-II Type Writing Test, together with the candidate's Nigam preference and vacancy availability; Pre-examination marks carry no weightage
- 5Common competitive examinations are held separately for each post and discipline, and company preferences given in the application form are final and irrevocable; candidates who completed apprenticeship training in a Vidyut Nigam under the Apprentices Act, 1961 get preference in that Nigam
